Jonesie,

It appears it does a bad block in the flash... however, I'm no expert on this particular subject but I believe this is somewhat normal. The hub should basically notes that block 155 is bad and uses a different one instead.

Did the update complete after the lines you posted or error out? The update process compares an MD5 sum after the update, so if there are ANY errors it can't deal with, it will retry.

No luck, the upgrade keeps failing. I'm going to try swapping the hub and see if a new one will upgrade after rooting.

Thanks for your help. I'll keep you posted.

I can confirm that it was likely a bad block in flash. I swapped the hub out at Home Depot and followed the guide to root it out of the box, then the guide to upgrade to 00.56 while maintaining root, and both were successful. This time around, when running upgrade.sh in step #4, I get the following output:

Code: Select all

ubiformat: 224 eraseblocks have valid erase counter, mean value is 0

Thanks for the help!

That's great Jonesie. Both that you're all set with your new out of the box hub and that the directions successfully got you there!

Thanks CloneNum3 for all your hard work.

I'm really a noob when it comes to linux. I have successful gained root access with the help of http://forum.xda-developers.com/general ... t-t2969205 when zeroing out the password method not using the SSH key, and of course I put a new password on root after.

I have also modified the hosts file, set_dev_value.php, and /etc/init.d/S31platform and followed every step on http://arahuman.blogspot.com/2014/11/ho ... -step.html.

With that said I can SSH into the wink, login to the root account. Do I still need to follow Step 1? If so should "curl http://192.168.0.1/set_dev_value.php" in Step 1 be your new IP address, the IP when you join Wink to your network (My current Wink IP is 192.168.1.16)? Or can I skip this step since I have Root/SSH access already?

Yes, you can skip to step #4 if you can already ssh to your wink hub.

Thanks CloneNum3! I've been on the firmware it came on since I got it, but I finally went through your post today, and it worked flawless!

Now happily on 00.82 :)

Are you still happily at 00.82? Mine got hit with the http://recovery.wink.com/ issue. Just curious.

I'm planning to update mine following the upgrade maintaining root instructions, with the caveat that I will change the DNS servers on the hub itself, not on my router.

I updated mine without any dns changes anywhere, back to a solid blue with 00.86
